Nurse Leader, Educator, and Clinician
Denise is a Nurse Leader, Educator, and Clinician with a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from Duquesne University and a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She has a Post-Masters in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and a Post-Masters in Health Administration. Denise most recently completed a Post-Masters in Teaching Education at the University of Pennsylvania and a Post-Masters in Nursing Education at Thomas Jefferson University. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Holy Family University. In December, 2016 she graduated from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania Nursing Leaders Program.
Denise has over twenty five years of experience in nursing, serving in various administrative, clinical and teaching roles. She is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she relocated to Southwest Florida in the year 2000. Denise served as Chief Nursing Officer for South Florida State Hospital and Park Royal Hospital and also served as the Associate Dean of Nursing for Florida Southwestern College. Denise serves as a Clinical Education Specialist for Lee Health where she provides professional development for nurses and other healthcare professionals. She is the Founder of Ave Maria University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and has been the Department Chair since the Program's inception. Denise also maintains a private practice in Naples, Florida where she provides therapy for individuals, couples and families as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
As the Founder for Collier County Nurses, she serves as Chair of the Future of Nursing Task Force - Southwest Florida, Board Member for the Friendship Health Clinic in Naples and Board Member for the Florida League for Nursing. Denise has presented at several national and international conferences. Her passions are nursing empowerment, leadership development, and creating healthy work environments. She co-authored a leadership textbook for nurses published in Spring, 2017 which includes her innovations - The Journey to Empowerment, The Journey to Self-leadership, The Journey to Resilience, and the Journey to a Culture of Excellence.
Denise is the recipient of the 2013 Naples Daily News Heroes in Healthcare - Nursing Excellence Award and the 2016 WGCU MAKERS, Women Who Make Southwest Florida Award.
